An *insert high quality brand here* super awesome multitool is something everyone needs, and would theoretically make a really sweet gift, especially engraved and personalized … except when it’s not. Japanese, Latin American, Chinese and Muslim people are diverse in customs and culture. But one thing they have in common is the belief that knives (or anything with a sharp edge) are offensive gifts representing the severing of a relationship. Aside from the cultural symbolism, many people could perceive a knife as an aggressive or threatening object to receive on a happy, gift-giving day!
Don't let this be you... give the American Express® Gift Card

This would explain why my mom never let me get her a new set of knives when she desperately needed them. I’m Latin American and my mom refused to receive knives but I never bothered to ask why. I think an American Express Git Card would be ideal so that she can buy her own knives and not worry about severing our mother daughter relationship.

Interesting. An ex-girlfriend once gave me knives. Perhaps she was passive-aggressively trying to say something. On the other hand, the super-awesome multi-tool pictured above looks too utilitarian to carry an angry message… doesn’t it?
What about letter openers? Swords? Light sabres?

What kind of multitool is in that photo? It’s pretty cool looking. I’ll be sure to buy it for myself, and not as a gift
